Gun Violence Forum
The Gun Violence Forum we held on March 10 was an engaging and thought-provoking discussion with over 40 people in attendance. Lori Haas gave us facts and statistics while advocating for policy changes that would hold the gun lobby accountable and shine more light on those who profit from proliferating guns. Senator Hashmi gave us the legislative perspective of how gun violence is being addressed and insisted that politicians can find bipartisan approaches to passing gun safety laws. Then Dr. Bhagat gave his perspective of working with people to encourage grassroots approaches to preventing gun violence by offering alternatives to violence and providing opportunities for communities to heal from the traumas they have experienced. After hearing from all the panelists, we opened the floor up to audience comments and questions, which also allowed everyone an opportunity to voice their concerns and frustrations. We want to give special thanks to our panelists and to the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond for the use of their facilities and for making it possible for us to record the forum.
